Why Gulton
Gulton is a pioneer in thermal printhead development and production. We have developed a hard protective coating that extends the abrasive life of our printheads by up to four times that of our competition.
Gulton’s corporate office and production facility is based in the United States. We manufacture OEM and OEM compatible thermal printheads for shipment worldwide. Examples of our vertical markets include; but are not limited to: barcode, gaming, wagering, lottery, tag ticket, label, transportation, petroleum, financial and automated data collection markets.
Because of our American heritage, we have gained a unique position in the industry having become the only U.S. manufacturer of thermal printheads.
With a complete line of standard printheads and the ability to design and manufacture to customer specifications, Gulton offers printheads for a variety of applications.
• Gaming and lottery ticket printing
• Medical and industrial recording
• Mass transit tickets
• Bar code printing
• Point of sale receipts
• Automated teller machines
• Weigh scale labels
• Test and measurement instrumentation
• Coupon printing in self-service kiosks and more
• Petroleum
• Financial
These applications and many others require a diverse array of printhead characteristics.
• Dot density up to 300 dpi (12 dpmm)
• Print speed up to 12 inches (305mm) per second
• Resistor line location (edge, near edge, etc.)
• Direct thermal or thermal transfer
• PTC for preheating
• NTC for overheating protection
• Dot history control (DHC) for consistent print quality at high speed
• DLC coating for extended wear life
• Thick Film or Thin Film technology
Our engineering team is eager to work with you to incorporate the necessary specifications into a Gulton thermal printhead that fits your application.
Benefits that have helped define major differences between Gulton print heads and its competitors are:
• Unequaled abrasive life of 100 kilometers is up to four times as long as the rated wear life of our largest competitors.
• Unequaled thermal life of 100 million pulses, once again twice the stated pulse life of our largest competitors.
• "One hundred percent dot duty cycle." Provides the user with the capability of addressing all elements for the highest clarity, print accuracy, and reproduction.
• Gold wire bonds versus pressure contact between printed circuit board and substrate for greater signal integrity.
• Hard black epoxy and/or silicon clear coating protects gold wire bonds and sensitive electronic circuitry against moisture and harsh environments.
• Exceptional design lead times of 6 - 8 weeks, from concept to a final product. This is accomplished in part, because we are a U.S. based producer.
• Gulton provides flexibility of design for customization. We have previously designed print heads for many of the most popular printers currently in use. If your application requires a modification to any one of these popular designs, or is totally new, we can easily make the changes at the CAD/CAM workstation. This will not only reduce the lead time for a final product, it will also provide cost advantages and savings to you.
With 30 years experience manufacturing thermal print heads, we provide the highest quality product that meets your requirements.
